On Wednesday night, Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot scored the first goal of his Champions League career as the Italian giants defeated Atletico Madrid 2-1 at the Allianz Stadium.

Rabiot's goal came just minutes after Juve's star man Paulo Dybala had given them a 1-0 lead with a penalty, but Atleti were not to be denied and equalised through Antoine Griezmann before the break.

The second half was a closely contested affair, with both teams creating chances, but it was Juve who took control and went ahead again through a superb strike from the left by Rabiot.

The Frenchman cut inside and beat Atleti goalkeeper Jan Oblak before curling the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

It was a well-deserved win for Juve, who have now won their last three Champions League matches against Spanish sides, including a 4-1 victory over Barcelona earlier this season.

The win also means that Rabiot has now scored twice in the competition, becoming the first Juventus player since Massimiliano Allegri in 2006 to score in both of his Champions League debut appearances.

Rabiot is now only the third Juventus player to score in the competition, following Filippo Inzaghi and Alessandro Del Piero, and he will be hoping to continue his impressive form in the coming weeks.

For Atleti, they will be disappointed to have lost yet another Champions League match at home, but they will take heart from their improved performances under new coach Diego Simeone.
